Take out your juggling pins, bust out your dancing shoes, and start warming up.

St. James Anglican Church’s talent night is almost here, happening Saturday, October 4, from 6:30 pm to 9 pm.

The night will feature talents of all kinds, a silent auction, a cash bar, and an evening you won’t soon forget.

Member of St. James, Diane Allengame, shared that after the COVID-19 pandemic, they realized the community wasn’t having the get-togethers it once did.

“COVID was really hard on all organizations, including churches, and we felt it was time really to do something fun, not just for us, but to invite our larger community, our other faith friends to come together,” shared Allengame. “What better way than a talent night.”

The night is open to all and all versions of talents.

All proceeds from the night will go towards St. James’ HVAC system.

Allengame said at the same time they were planning their talent night, they realized the slow deterioration of their heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system, and it needed their attention.

The system is also essential as their space houses the Caledon East Children’s Place, the daycare that operates independently of the church.

Many different groups and community members rent their facility, she said, and these issues would impact them as well.

“Replacing both of these units has suddenly gone to the top of the list,” she said.

To avoid impacting the programs and community, they have been conducting expensive repairs on the system in the meantime.

But, as the system is over 20 years old, it’s time to be replaced.

They are hoping to raise $85,000 over time.

The talent night will serve as a starting point for their HVAC fund, helping them get started.

“We want people to be relaxed and have fun, and just enjoy being there,” says Allengame. “We made it really clear, you do not have to be an opera singer.”

The silent auction that evening will feature products from local businesses in Caledon East.

“We’re really thankful to these businesses for supporting us this way,” she says.

Tickets can be purchased at the door and in advance.
