Those set to be honoured in the Athletes Category include Ashley Lawrence (Soccer), Bruce Wanless (Lacrosse), Helena Kavelaar (Fastball), representing swimming, Jade Scognamillo, Keith Beavers, and Tess Routliffe.
In the Builder category, new inductees include Chris Humeniuk (Golf) and George Gardiner (Horseracing/Breeder), while the 2013 U13 Lady Wanderers, representing Youth Soccer, will be inducted as a team – and sharing the honours will be Vanessa Fiore, Jennifer Smith, Amanda Scarafile, Cassandra Amponsah, Sabrina Canini, Sierra Amico, Victoria Bozzo, Valentina Gonzalez, Kennedy Bechard, Maddaline Horner, Logan Hanczyk, Amber Bateman, Nikole Valkanas, and Coach Pedro Gonzalez.
This year’s honourees will be recognized at a special induction ceremony set for Wednesday, January 28, from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Caledon East Community Complex.
In its announcement, the Town hailed the new members as individuals representing “Caledon’s finest talent, showcasing excellence across a diverse range of sports and highlighting the community’s rich athletic spirit.”
These were sentiments shared by Mayor Annette Groves.
“We’re excited to gather once again this January to celebrate our newest inductees into Caledon’s Sport Hall of Fame,” said Mayor Groves in a statement. “This annual event continues to grow in excitement and pride each year, and I encourage everyone to join us in honouring the athletes, coaches, and builders who have made a lasting impact on our community.”
Added Judith D’Souza Soares, Caledon’s Commissioner of Community Services: “We are pleased to announce the newest inductees to Caledon’s Sport Hall of Fame, each of whom has made a lasting impact on the history of sports in our community. The Town remains committed to enhancing community vitality and livability, and annually honouring our outstanding athletes, builders, and teams. This award ceremony is a wonderful example of that. We invite everyone to join us at the ceremony this January.”
