From 2022 to 2026, Mars Canada, home to beloved snacks and treats such as Mars Bars and brands like Royal Canin, invested $180 million in its four Ontario facilities to accelerate manufacturing innovation and workplace modernization.

This brings Mars Canada’s total investment in Canadian operations to nearly $400 million since 2015.

In a press release, it was stated that the $180 million investment is distributed across the company’s four Ontario-based manufacturing sites to enhance operations in Mars Snacking, Pet Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, and Royal Canin.

More than $100 million of the total investment is allocated to three packaging line upgrades to accelerate long-term performance and increase production capacity.

The increase in production capacity was also said to enable the production of new formats that meet evolving consumer tastes.

At the Bolton location, Mars Pet Nutrition, they are investing $86 million to enhance manufacturing capabilities and sustainable operations.

This will result in a 50 per cent increase in production capacity of Temptations care and treat operations, a 15 per cent reduction in the site’s water use, and a 13 per cent reduction in the site’s gas and hydro consumption.

With the Bolton site reaching a 40-year milestone this year, the company shared that they are marking four decades of innovation, growth, and community impact.

Romain Dumas, General Manager, Mars Pet Nutrition in Canada, says that as they mark 40 years of operations in Bolton, this investment underscores their commitment to Canadian manufacturing and innovation.

“We look forward to continuing to serve the evolving needs of our customers, our community and pet parents, while furthering innovation for the future growth of the category,” says Dumas.

Their other facility, also located in Bolton, Mars Food and Nutrition, the company is investing $17 million to enhance production lines for brands in its Food and Nutrition portfolio.

This will increase capacity by 8 per cent and reduce the site’s energy usage by 93 kilowatt-hours per day.

This location is also marking a milestone, celebrating its 25th year in Bolton.

“As our Bolton Food Plant celebrates 25 years this year, this investment reflects both pride in our legacy and confidence in what lies ahead,” stated Derin Bello, General Manager, Mars Food and Nutrition, Canada.

He also stated this investment in their manufacturing capabilities marks a significant milestone for their Canadian operations.

“By modernizing our facilities, we’re fueling future growth and helping ensure our beloved products, like Ben’s Original, continue to be enjoyed by generations to come,” says Bello.

Their facilities in Newmarket and Guelph will also see millions in investment.

“Rooted in more than a century of Canadian history, this investment represents both the future of our industry and our unwavering commitment to the Canadian market and economy,” said Ellen Thompson, General Manager, Mars Snacking Canada.

“For generations, Mars has been proud to make, invest, and grow in Canada. These upgrades reflect our continued focus on advancing innovation, sustainability, and workplace modernization, ensuring our business continues to thrive and contribute to Canada’s economic vitality for years to come.”
