A Caledon theatre company’s recent production of “Something Rotten” were something awesome.

From October 26 to 29, Over the Footlight Productions (OTF) put on performances of the comedic musical at the Vaughan Playhouse.

Lucy Todish, co-founder of OTF and producer of its performances of Something Rotten, said the performances were well-received.

“It was fantastic,” said Todish of the show’s run. “We had a great audience and some really positive reviews which was nice.”

Todish said she was pleased that Caledon Mayor Annette Groves came out to see the Saturday night performance of the show.

She said the OTF actors were so happy to be able to finally perform for an audience.

“They worked so hard for the past six months,” said Todish, noting how much work it is to put on a big show. “They fed off the energy as well, it’s nice to have the audience responding to the jokes, songs and dances.”

Todish said the musical’s opening number got a great reaction from the audience, and it set a great tone for the rest of the show.

While the cast was making waves on the stage, their behind-the-scenes crew was just as hard at work managing lighting, sets, props, costumes and more.

Todish said the efforts of those who work behind the scenes aren’t talked about enough; that they really make the theatre come to life.

“We had to make sure we had the right lighting, the right set design to set the mood for the audience,” said Todish, “There were a lot of props that we had to make… and I can’t say enough about the costumes.”

Ward 5 Councillor Tony Rosa was involved with the show, as he was its executive producer. Todish said his help in securing sponsorships was invaluable.

“He was a huge part of this,” she said.

Todish said she is so proud of the entire cast of Something Rotten.

“Everybody did an amazing job,” she said.

OTF is a not-for-profit theatre company started earlier this year by Todish and fellow Caledon resident John Thomas. It’s partnered with the Stage Academy Theatre Association.

To inquire about volunteering for OTF or participating in its next performance, interested parties can email overthefootlight@gmail.com. Todish also encourages anyone interested to follow OTF on Instagram @overthefootlight.

Todish said the theatre company will be deciding on its next production in the next few months.
