The Bolton Brewers are leading the North Dufferin Baseball League with 10 points and five wins after six games played in the 2013 season.
The Brewers are the defending champions, having won the league title the last four seasons.
This past weekend saw a break in the action when a scheduled double header between the Brewers and the Bolton Dodgers had to be rescheduled. Those games were moved to June 15, at North Hill Park in Bolton with the first game scheduled for 1 p.m., and the second match following with a 3 p.m. start.
Beginning with a pair of wins in the early going over the Creemore Braves and the Ivy Leafs, the Brewers had their first loss May 14 against the Aurora Jays, losing by a single run in a tight 7-6 battle.
They went on to win the next three over the Lisle Astros, and back-to-back games over the Angus Black Sox.
“Our pitching has been great,” said Brewers coach Mike Wallace. “I think once our pitchers get going, we’ll be okay. In the early season, the pitchers seem to have an advantage.”
The Midland Indians are in the number two spot in the league standings with 10 points. After seven games, the Indians have two losses and five wins.
They are followed by the Orillia Majors in third place with three wins after four games, and the New Lowell Knights in fourth place with a 3-2 record so far.
The Bolton Dodgers are off to a bit of a slow start this season, losing their first two games. They left the field with a 4-2 loss to the Nobleton Cornhuskers in the season opener May 8.
Game two against the Midland Indians resulted in an 11-0 shutout for the Midland squad.
The Dodgers’ first win came May 15, when the won a home field game 8-4 over the Angus Black Sox.
That was followed by loss number three May 16, to the New Lowell Knights.
The North Dufferin League has a full slate of 14 teams in the Senior division this season with all but one of the teams returning from last year.
NDBL also has a Junior division, with six teams signed up and playing.
The Brewers have two road games on the schedule.
They will be in Midland June 8, to face the Indians, then follow up the next day with a Sunday game against the Clearview Orioles.
They return to North Hill Park in Bolton May 13, to host the Midland Indians. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
The Dodgers were to return to action yesterday (Wednesday) to face the Lisle Astros in Bolton, with results coming after press time.
Returning to North Hill Park this coming Wednesday (June 5), the Dodgers will host the Ivy Leafs in a game scheduled under the lights at 8:30 p.m.
