Each year, Lions clubs around the world sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. The theme of the 2015-16 contest was Share the Peace and students, aged 11, 12 and 13 were eligible to participate. The Lions Club of Caledon has announced that Purnima Dewar of Alloa Public School was named winner of Lions Club District A711 (which comprises clubs in the GTA, including Oakville, Burlington, Waterdown, etc). Purnima’s poster was then judged against all the Lions Clubs across Canada for submission to the worldwide finals but did not advance any further. Purnima received her Certificate of Achievement from Caledon Lions Club President, Tom Sweeney, at the Alloa Public School assembly June 17, much to the delight of the entire school.
