The Caledon Seniors Centre (CSC) opened its doors in 1995 with the mission to relieve loneliness and isolation through social, educational, recreational, and fun programs and activities for seniors, and they’ve been doing so ever since.

The Centre shares that for three decades, it has been a vibrant hub of connection, care, and community, with its success primarily due to the efforts of its volunteers over the years.

In 1990, the Bolton Rotary Club accepted a $100,000 donation to build a recreation centre for the seniors of Caledon, and in 1992, construction began.

After a fundraising campaign to cover residual costs, Rotary Place was officially opened in 1995, with senior programming beginning shortly after.

When construction was complete, Rotary turned over the facility’s operation to the CSC, which managed the building until the transfer to the Town of Caledon in 2011, “ensuring its lasting legacy for generations to come,” says the Centre.

Centre Manager Beverley Nurden was hired in 1997, and she has remained Manager to this day, to which she says has truly been 29 years of “honouring the past, celebrating the present, and embracing the future,” CSC’s motto.

Over the years, programs, volunteers, and memberships have grown significantly, welcoming hundreds of new members over the decade.

They’ve been able to keep their programs accessible and affordable to seniors; many of the programs currently offered by the Centre cost just $4 to attend.

The CSC operates from its central location at Rotary Place, as well as six satellite locations across Caledon, ensuring it can reach seniors throughout the community, with the recent addition of expanded South Asian programming.

CSC shares the past five years brought definite challenges due to COVID-19, but they were able to keep their community connected through outdoor activities, Zoom sessions, and their over-the-phone programs.

Another significant change over the past five years was their expansion in 2021, growing their space from 6,000 square feet to 13,800.

Their grand opening of the new space in 2022 was described as a “proud milestone” in their history.

CSC shares the work of their Centre is supported by the Town of Caledon, grants from the Provincial government, and dedicated support from local businesses, community service clubs,

and more.

Now, they’re able to celebrate the accomplishments and hard work over the last 30 years.

Nurden notes it’s a celebration of the people who have made this happen over the years.

Their 30th Anniversary gala will be held at the Royal Ambassador Greenhouse on November 28 from 6:00 pm to midnight.

The tickets are $ 135 per person, and the event includes welcome cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, a three-course dinner, and a night of dancing.

Those interested can call the Centre at 905-951-6114 to buy their tickets.
