The Town of Caledon has purchased land in Caledon East.

On October 21, Town Communications staff announced Caledon had purchased a parcel of land in Caledon East’s downtown core.

The property is roughly a half-acre in size and is located next to the Caledon Trailway at the southwest corner of Airport Road and Emma Street. The property is currently vacant and, in the past, it’s been used for storage and parking.

The Town’s media release notes the property was purchased to support the revitalization and beautification of Caledon East’s downtown core. The Caledon East Revitalization Task Force, which is made up of residents, staff, and Caledon Council members, will be working to determine the best use for the property.

Ward 3 Councillor Doug Maskell said the renewal of downtown Caledon East has been a priority for him ever since he was elected in 2022.

“This was a rare opportunity for the town to secure land along a major road for resident and public use. Special thanks to town staff, who worked diligently on this project, and to my council peers for supporting this acquisition,” said Maskell.

Regional Councillor for Wards 1, 2 and 3 Christina Early said the property has been vacant for decades.

“The purchase is a signal to residents and businesses that the town is committed to revitalizing Caledon East and transforming it into a more attractive and livable village,” said Early.

According to the town, the Caledon East Revitalization Task Force is working with town staff and other stakeholders to preserve the culture and history of downtown Caledon East, increase economic vitality for small businesses, and establish community projects and events, beautification activities, tourism, wayfinding, and visitor initiatives.

“The task force will provide input into opportunities for the property’s future use for the community so town Council can consider any project needs in its 2026 budget deliberations,” reads the media release.
