The Town of Caledon is hosting a free day of winter fun this weekend.
On Sunday, January 7, from 1 to 4 p.m. Caledon residents are invited to the Mayfield Recreation Complex for the Town’s 20th Annual Winterfest Celebration.
The event is family-friendly and features free swimming, skating, crafts, food and more. There will also be a fun photo booth and from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. a magic show.
At 2 p.m. Caledon Mayor Annette Groves and Caledon Councillors will be giving a welcome address to attendees.
The origins of Winterfest come from a longstanding tradition known as the Mayor’s Levee, an annual event usually held on the first Sunday after New Year’s Day that would bring people together for a day of fun.
Town communications staff said over the years the event grew and came to be known as Winterfest, “an event that not only gives the community a reason to come together and celebrate in the winter, but also to enjoy some free food and drinks, and participate in numerous family-fun activities.”
Groves said she’s excited to be inviting the community to the upcoming Winterfest event.
“Come out and start off 2024 with a community celebration. I look forward to seeing you there,” said Groves.
Communications staff said providing residents and families opportunities to come together and celebrate as a community is important.
“Organizing Winterfest annually gives us all a chance to get together and celebrate the start of a new, exciting year, with fun family events… and to cap off the holiday break before children return to school again,” said staff.
The Mayfield Recreation Complex is located at 12087 Bramalea Road.
