Town completes its broadband gap analysis

July 20, 2015   ·   0 Comments

The Town of Caledon has completed a town-wide broadband gap analysis, in keeping with the council priority and Community Based Strategic Plan objective of expanding Caledon’s high speed internet infrastructure.
The Caledon Broadband Gap Analysis offers a clear situational analysis of present broadband coverage in Caledon, and identifies the service needs of underserved and excluded areas. An interactive map of these findings is available online.
In the near future, the analysis will be used as input into the development of a town-wide high speed internet. That work will include broadband strategies — assembling alternative strategies to move the Town from its present situation to one where broadband requirements would be met; and broadband economics — completing an economic study to financially assess the alternative strategies available to the Town.
“Completion of the Caledon Broadband Gap Analysis is an important first step toward town-wide broadband connectivity and advances our future goal of building an intelligent community,” commented Mayor Allan Thompson.
In addition to future improvements to add wi-fi in town facilities, and council’s April 28 direction to develop a town wide internet strategy, the Caledon Broadband Gap Analysis takes the town a step closer to the creation of a modern, efficient, and reliable telecommunications system that will contribute to economic and social development for all residents and businesses.
