The Caledon Golden Hawks suffered two bad losses against the Orillia Terriers and the Alliston Hornets last week

The last game between the Golden Hawks and the Terriers in Orillia, was a night to forget. The Terriers ruined the Golden Hawks 13-2.

In this one, the Golden Hawks were determined for redemption against their foe. Ultimately, they came up short, losing the game 4-0.

Unfortunately, it was the Terriers that took a commanding lead in the first period. Terriers forward Mason Beck opened the scoring earning his 9th goal this year. A simple hockey play for that matter. Put the puck to the net and sometimes, it goes in.

Following the goal, the Golden Hawks fired up their afterburners. The boys were outskating and outshooting the Terriers. Goaltender Zach Levac was up to the task, denying the Hawks a chance at a tying goal and keeping his team even keel.

As a reward, Terriers player Noah Rowland’s shot was deflected in by forward Zane Morris. A few minutes later, another deflection found the back of the net, this time, by Josh Brown.

With three goals given up on 16 shots in the first period, honourably, the Golden Hawks players approached their goaltender Aidan Spooner in support, tapping his pads with the blade of their hockey sticks.

Since that moment, Spooner was sharp the rest of the game.

In a goalless second period, the Golden Hawks continued to push. Golden Hawks forward Daniel Butt; with 19 goals on the year, had a great chance turned aside by Levac.

Heading into the third period, tensions were rising and if an introspection had to be completed on each individual, the conclusion, is that animosity was beginning to boil.

Luke Miehm’s exquisite chance was shut down by Levac. Jake Semmens tried to work his magic and that was de-spelled. Scrambles in front of Levac held you on the edge of your seat, but the goaltender held on for a 35-save shutout overshadowing a good effort from the Golden Hawks.

At the buzzer, a fight broke out between some of the players between the Golden Hawks and the Terriers.

Everyone left the ice that evening displeased.

Head Coach of the Golden Hawks Stan Kondrotas praised Levac’s performance that evening.

“He’s a proven number one goalie in the league. When he was with Stayner, he proved to get the job done. He’s doing everything you can ask for as a goalie and that is, to give you every opportunity to win a game,” said Kondrotas.

“When you’re good, you’re lucky. And, sometimes he gets lucky. We had no puck luck. We should have had some goals.”

On December 27th, the Golden Hawks hosted the Alliston Hornets again. The last result between these two in Caledon East, the Hornets came out with a 3-2 win.

Another one goal loss in this one as the Hornets erased a three-goal deficit to take this game 5-4.

The Golden Hawks came flying out of the gate, scoring three goals in the first five minutes. Alex Mourani got things going, then Logan Hoover converted on the powerplay. Ethan Lajeunesse added the third goal.

Towards the end of the period, the Hornets got one past goaltender Jason Cumbo thanks to Hornets forward Jordan Taylor.

After outshooting the Hornets 9-6 in the opening frame, the Golden Hawks struggled for the next two periods.

The Hornets outshot the Golden Hawks 19-8 in the second period and 22-7 in the third.

Rhys Brown and Liam Kendall scored two goals in the second to make it 3-3. Brown added his second goal of the game in the third on the powerplay and the Lajeunesse of the Golden Hawks made it 4-4.

With under a minute left, Hornets defenceman Mitch Livingston sealed it on the power play.

With a month left in the season, the Golden Hawks currently sit 6th in the North Carruthers Division.
