Plenty of fun at Bolton Fair, despite Saturday’s rain

The weekend saw the 155th edition of the Bolton Fall Fair, put on by the Albion and Bolton Agricultural Society. Although the weather could have been better (especially Saturday), the weekend still attracted a good crowd of people out for fun and learning. Kori deBoer won the award for showmanship among Bolton club members Saturday at Bolton 4-H Dairy Calf Club Achievement Day.

There were plenty on interesting horticultural entries. Nancy Hopkinson of Nobleton won a couple of ribbons, including for the best zinnia and her dried-flower arrangement, entitled Tail Gate Party.

Friday night’s fun at Bolton Fair included naming the winners of the contest for best decorated bike and wagon. They were the brother-and-sister combination of Samuel and Annabelle Howland-Weiner.

The Fairgrounds were a busy place Friday night, as the rain held off long enough to get a good crowd in the stands for the annual demolition derby. There was lots of speed and smashing of cars to keep the audience entertained. Photos by Bill Rea

There were lots of interesting animals to make friends with at the Fair, including a collection of five-day-old baby chicks from David Feed and Farm Supply. Avery Nixon, 4, watched as Sebastian Castro, 4, and his sister Shaela, 3, petted this chick.

Sunday saw the Kiddie Pedal Pull. Jack Spencer, 4, of Cedar Mills, was giving it everything he had.
