Flags at Town of Caledon facilities were lowered to half-staff last week in honour of Jim Flaherty.
Mr. Flaherty, Canada’s former finance minister, and previously finance minister for Ontario, died unexpectedly last Thursday. He was 64.
The Town extended sincere condolences to Mr. Flaherty’s family, friends and colleagues for this tragic loss.
Mayor Marolyn Morrison had words of tribute to Mr. Flaherty at Tuesday’s meeting of Town council, praising his 20-year-political career and calling him a great example to those who hold public office.
While she never actually worked with him, Morrison said she met Mr. Flaherty a few times.
“This man had the big picture,” she declared. “He was ready to bite the bullit and do things that were right in the long-run.”
