A local aggregate company is celebrating its 60th anniversary.

On July 30, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones visited James Dick Construction in Bolton to congratulate the business on its major milestone. Jones had brought Ford to Dufferin and Caledon that day to tour local businesses.

“Congratulations as you celebrate 60 years and look ahead to many more successful years in the community,” said Jones in a social media post.

Jones and Ford also visited Ice River Springs, a family-run bottled water company, and KTH Manufacturing, an automotive parts manufacturer, in Shelburne.

Greg Sweetnam, Executive Vice President of James Dick Construction, has been working there for 43 years. He said the company was very happy to host Ford and Jones, and that he was grateful for the kind words Ford shared while he was visiting.

“It was a pleasure to host them,” said Sweetnam.

James Dick Construction will officially celebrate its 60th anniversary on September 6.

Sweetnam said the company has been proud to be one of Caledon’s largest employers for the last 60 years. He said the company has provided over 100 million tons of aggregate to build cities and more during that time.

“The interesting thing is over the last 60 years, most of the material we have shipped from Caledon has been to build cities outside of Caledon, but over the next 20 years most of the material we will be shipping will be used to build Caledon because of the growth that’s coming,” said Sweetnam. “Very few municipalities have the resources to build themselves, and that’s what we’ll be doing for the next 20 years, helping Caledon build Caledon.”

Sweetnam said using aggregate from Caledon to build Caledon has many benefits, and that James Dick Construction has been good partners with the Town of Caledon and will continue to be.

Sweetnam added that James Dick Construction is one of the few private Canadian family-owned businesses left in the aggregate sector and that the whole Dick family still lives in and around the Caledon area.
