Holocaust survivor to speak — Afternoon of Remembrance at Caledon Public Library

November 4, 2015   ·   0 Comments

Caledon Public Library invites the community to its Afternoon of Remembrance at the Albion-Bolton Branch Nov. 9 at 1:30 p.m.
This year, in partnership with Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies, the library will welcome Faigie Schmidt Libman, a Holocaust survivor who was only seven years old when her hometown of Kovno, Lithuania was invaded by the Nazis in 1941. At first, forced to move to a newly established ghetto and to wear the yellow star, Faigie and her family avoided being executed by machine gun and were eventually shipped to separate concentration camps.
In 1982, Faigie discovered that the Nazi responsible for the deaths of so many of her friends and family was living only a few block away from her Toronto home. She has been sharing her story ever since.
This will be a free informative and reflective afternoon.
