The Robert F. Hall Wolfpack football team is guaranteed a spot in the playoffs after defeating the David Suzuki Secondary School Grizzlies 24-6 at the Hall home field last Wednesday (Oct. 16).
The Wolfpack was leading 24-0 at the end of the first half after a stellar performance that saw the Hall squad score three touchdowns and get the other three points on a field goal.
Wolfpack touchdowns came from quarterback Jake Smith and  running backs Andre Gordon and Aaron Coward.
Kicker Gabriel Siemieniec placed the ball through the uprights for the field goal.
The Wolfpack still have two games left in the regular season, but after last week’s game, they are assured a spot in the playoffs no matter what happens in the two remaining outings.
“They played great,” Wolfpack head coach Jason Sweeney said. “Everybody’s getting in. It’s a varsity program and everyone’s been playing. That’s key to building a team.”
Going into the second half, the Wolfpack played a solid defensive game that shut down the Grizzlies when they went to the throwing game in an attempt to get on the scoreboard.
Early in the third quarter, linebacker Jake Sutherland snagged an interception to give the Wolfpack possession on the 45 yard line.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Grizzlies were held on the 30 and unable to gain any yards. The Hall squad took possession on downs with less than five minutes remaining on the clock.
The visitors again went for the throwing game with little success, but late in the quarter, a 15-yard penalty was assessed to the Wolfpack on an unnecessary roughing call that gave the Grizzlies the needed yards to get into scoring position.
With zeros on the clock, the Grizzlies broke through the line on the last play of the game to score and make it a 24-6 final.
“Even if we were to lose the last two games, we have beaten everyone else that could tie us a 4-2,” Sweeney said of the positioning going into the playoffs.
There are two more regular season games on the schedule.
The Wolfpack will return to their home field this coming Wednesday (Oct. 23).
The kick-off is scheduled for noon.
