Town of Caledon staff is being asked to clarify its obligations when it comes to issueing building permits.
Councillor Annette Groves introduced a notice of motion at last week’s council meeting which would direct staff to prepare a report outlining when a permit must be issued, as well as defining what applicable laws might be involved, eligibility requirements for a conditional permit and the accompanying timelines to accept or reject a permit application.
In the body of her motion, Graves noted the issuing of permits is regulated under the Ontario Building Code, adding the Chief Building Official will issue the permit unless the proposal violates the Act, building code “or any other applicable law.”
She added there is a long list of statutes that have to be complied with for a building permit to be issued.
It’s expected council will discuss this motion at its next regular meeting, scheduled for Jan. 27. Grove’s motion asks for the staff report to be ready for council’s Feb. 10 meeting.
