An near-endless line of people flowed in and out of the Albion Bolton Community Centre this weekend, almost as limitless as the number of butter tarts held inside.

This year’s Butter Tart festival, run by Gotta Luv Butter Tarts, hit Caledon with a sugar rush, and with over 40 vendors from all over Ontario.

In lieu of admission, attendees were asked to donate to the Caledon Community Services Exchange Food Bank by bringing donations to the event.

Not only were residents able to experience butter tarts from all over Ontario, but vendors were able to experience Caledon.

For many, this was their first time in the community.

Victoria Field, owner of Bake My Day in Alliston, is looking to expand her business and reach new people, and this event was a great place to start.

“I’ve never done a festival in Bolton, I feel like it was a good opportunity for me,” says Field.

She said many of the people she met that day hadn’t heard of her business, and she appreciated the opportunity to chat with attendees and share more about herself and her bakery.

Thirty minutes into the event, she had already sold out her raisin butter tarts, a clear favourite.

Field wasn’t the only newcomer to Caledon; The Bake Shop on Main from Cambridge shared that it was also their first time selling in Caledon.

They said not only was it nice to see the community buying their products, but they were “nice” as well on top of that.

Karen from Karen’s Corner said she stumbled upon Butter Tart festivals completely by accident.

A kindergarten teacher from Milton, it was her friend who was working on a fair board and first invited her to join in 2019.

Karen joked that she showed up with her tarts on paper plates with Saran Wrap, and watched as others loaded in skids full of butter tarts.

A lot has changed since that day, as Karen now stands in front of 30 dozen of her butter tarts that she brought.

The slogan above her booth, “The best things in life are made by hand,” rings true for Karen; everything available at the event at her booth was made by her just days prior.

Growing up baking with her grandmother and mom, the passion has carried forward into adulthood for her.

“I love just the interaction with people. It’s so fun. Some of the conversations you have, that’s the funnest part,” shared Karen.

Six hours later, the event ran until 4 p.m., with surely enough sugar to keep the Caledon community occupied for the rest of the weekend.
