Councillor corrects error

May 9, 2013   ·   0 Comments

In regard to the discussion of Brampton Brick’s proposal for the importation of fill into their mined out location on Mississauga Road, I misspoke at last Tuesday’s (April 30) council meeting.
Just a week prior to the council meeting, I attended a tour of the Lafarge operations and was told what the Lafarge procedure was for fill entering their sites. Since the meeting last Tuesday, I have gone back and checked with Lafarge in regard to their requirements for the importation of topsoil for rehabilitation of their pits.
All topsoil going to Lafarge sites is inspected at its origin according to Ministry of the Environment (MOE) regulations. In addition, Lafarge independently takes a sample every 1,000 cubic metres in the field before the topsoil is moved. When the topsoil arrives in the pit, Lafarge samples every 70th load arriving or about one in 700 cubic metres.
I was incorrect in stating that every fifth load was tested. I apologize for my error.
Richard Paterak,
Regional Councillor,
Ward 1, Town of Caledon
