Committee on sexual violence releases report

The Select Committee on Sexual Violence and Harassment recently tabled its interim report with the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly at Queen’s Park.
The final report is expected to be tabled in December.
“I am pleased the select committee has tabled our interim report,” commented Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones. “As a member of the Select Committee I had the opportunity to hear from individuals and groups about their experiences and advice in dealing with sexual violence and harassment in Ontario.”
The initiative to establish a select committee was started by Jones’s Progressive Conservative colleague, MPP Laurie Scott, who brought forward a resolution that received all-party support. Since February, the Select Committee had the opportunity to hear from more than 145 individuals and groups who discussed the need to improve the way the Province deals with sexual violence and harassment, both in the workplace and in the community.
“The interim report provides a summary of the presentations heard over the course of four months,” Jones added. “The Select Committee will now begin to prepare recommendations that will help the government put an end to sexual harassment and violence in Ontario. I look forward to continuing our work on this important committee.”
