Myles Payne of Caledon is celebrating after winning $82,153.30 in the Oct. 26 Lotto 6/49 draw.
Payne matched five numbers plus the bonus number to win a secondary prize.
“I won my big prize thanks to a Free Play,” he said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto where he picked up his winnings. “A few days had passed before I checked my ticket. I returned to my regular store and used the ticket checker. Right away, I saw ‘$82,153’ appear on the screen. I was sure there was something wrong with the machine.”
Payne said he turned to the retailer for help.
“I said, ‘This machine says I won $82,000.’ He told me to rescan the ticket. When I did, we both saw I was a Big Winner. The retailer congratulated me!”
Payne has big plans for his windfall.
“This has all happened pretty fast and it’s exiting! To be honest, I am still thinking about what to do with all of it,” he said. “Of course, I am going to pay some bills and travel. I am originally from Newfoundland and I have brothers back home. I plan to pay them a visit this Christmas.”
The winning ticket was purchased at OK Convenience Store and Gas on Airport Road in Caledon East.
