An interactive mobile museum is coming to Caledon to mark Black History Month.
On January 29, the Town of Caledon announced the Canadian Multicultural Inventors Museum would be coming to Caledon on four different dates to showcase its African Inventors and Icons exhibition. The exhibition features innovators of African descent and their inventions.
The exhibition will be on display on February 3 at the Caledon East Community Complex; February 10 at the Caledon Centre for Recreation and Wellness; February 19 at the Humber River Centre; and February 24 at the Southfields Community Centre.
At all these dates and locations the exhibition will be on display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Caledon Mayor Annette Groves said the Town is delighted to be collaborating with the Canadian Multicultural Inventors Museum.
“In celebrating our vibrant community in Caledon and honouring Black History Month, the Town is delighted to collaborate with the Canadian Multicultural Inventors Museum to present an engaging mobile museum showcasing the achievements of African innovators and their inventions. I invite everyone to visit one of our recreation facilities and explore the fascinating inventions and rich history on display,” said Groves in the announcement. “While February marks Black History Month, let us remain committed to acknowledging and appreciating Black culture in Canada year-round. It is essential to perpetuate awareness of significant cultural initiatives and address important social topics continuously.”
There will also be two information sessions taking place in Caledon as part of Black History Month. The first is on February 20 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Southfields Community Centre.
It’s being hosted by Roots Community Services, which provides culturally relevant programs and services to inspire and empower individuals, primarily from the Black, African and Caribbean communities, to make positive changes in their lives and within their communities.
The second session is on February 27 at 6:30 p.m. in Room C at the new Humber River Centre. It’s being hosted by the Anti-Black Racism and Systemic Discrimination Collective and will feature guest speaker Angela Carter, executive director of Roots Community Services.
In a January 29 media release, Town of Caledon communications staff said this February and beyond, Caledon is committed to celebrating Black culture, providing educational opportunities to staff, recognizing Black history, amplifying Black voices, and celebrating the lives of Black Canadians.
