Brewers complete grueling five game schedule in two days

It didn’t take the Bolton Brewers very long to win last Wednesday night (May 28) against the Mansfield Cubs in Mansfield.
The top of the first inning saw the Brewers leading by three when Stephen Warden placed the ball over the left field fence to drive in three runs to start the scoring.
The second inning saw another big delivery when Brett Chater hit a ground rule double to left field that could have easily been a triple if the ball hadn’t bounced out of bounds and under the fence.
The big hit of the night came in the third inning.
With the bases loaded, Owen Somervile stepped up and drove the ball deep into centre field for a grand slam that left the Mansfield team shaking their heads.
That was followed up by another RBI by Chater and the Brewers were leading 8-0 at the end of the third inning.
Chater brought in two more runs in the top of the fifth inning with a two run homer over right field.
At the end of the sixth inning, with the Brewers leading 11-0, the mercy rule was put into place and the game didn’t go into the seventh inning.
If anything, it showed that the Brewers have the right stuff at the plate when it comes to scoring runs — just like they did last season.
“For some reason, this team seems to play us very tough,” said Brewer coach Mike Wallace. “They stymied us last year. Of our four losses last year, this was a team that beat us. They can swing the bat pretty good.”
While Wallace may have been offering some good sportsmanlike words, the Brewers dominated this game, not only scoring 11 runs, they shut down the Cubs and held them to zero for the game.
“I think we hit the ball well,” Wallace said. “Some of our guys took some pretty good swings.”
The Brewers followed up over the weekend playing five games in two days.
Saturday, they were up against the Clearview Orioles in a double header at the New Lowell Recreation Park. They came out at .500 in that series.
The following day, they had another double header against the New Lowell Knights in New Lowell.
Starting at 11 a.m., they won game one 8-7, the followed up with a 2-1 win in game two that got underway at 1:30 p.m.
If that wasn’t enough, the Brewers packed up and made the trek to Angus to play the Black Sox in a 5 p.m. game.
After the weekend the Brewers are leading the NDBL senior division with a 12-3-0 record and 24 points.
The squad will be on the road for three games beginning with a double header in Midland June 7.
They return to North Hill Park in Bolton June 11 to host the Ivy Leafs.
The first pitch is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
