Caledon U16 soccer players Chester Borscevski and Arjun Dhindsa are back from an “experience of a lifetime” in Rome, Italy.

Borscevski and Dhindsa—who play for the Caledon-based soccer academy SSE90—participated in camps and exhibition games on North America’s Serie A elite team from December 13-20 in Rome.  They were selected back in the Fall through Rome City Institute ID camps and only 18 players across Canada and the USA were chosen for the travel team.

Both players were proudly sporting their SSE90 warmups prior to their Thursday evening practice at the Mayfield Dome.

Borscevski, a Grade 10 student at Mayfield Secondary School, thought the highlight of the excursion was “playing against the other top teams in Italy.”

“We played Lazio in our first game and lost 5-2. In the second game, I scored a game-winning header against Ascoli Calcio.”

Dhindsa, a Grade 10 student at Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School, agreed about the level of play and alluded to his teammate’s decisive goal as well as the team’s big 3-2 win in Italy.

“In the last game, we won with a big play at the end.”

Both were proud to represent their local club and Canada on the North American team that competed against one of the top soccer nations on Earth.

Dhindsa observed, “It felt great.  Chester and I were the only two players selected in Canada.”

Borscevski’s competitive streak emerged in our interview when he described the significance of his team’s victory over Ascoli Calcio.

“It was pretty important.  Our coach is Italian and we were playing his team.  The Italians thought we weren’t as good.  We showed them we could play just as well.  They shouldn’t have been so surprised.”

All of the squad’s games and practices took place in pristine facilities.  Dhindsa described them as “Amazing—all the fields were well-kept. We played on grass which is different than when we play here which is more on turf.”

Borscevski was impressed by “where we stayed.  We’d get up in the morning and we could walk on to the practice field.  We’d be right there.”

Dhindsa enjoyed “walking around Rome as a team. The pizza was amazing, too” and Borscevski thought it was “cool watching AS Roma against Como at Stadio Olimpico at the biggest stadium.”

Back home, both student-athletes believe their rep soccer team has what it takes to win the provincial championship this season.

Their SSE90 squad has achieved success during the indoor season and is preparing for big games both indoors and outdoors in 2026.

Dhindsa noted, “We made the second round of the Ontario Cup this month and we won a big game against Juventus on Tuesday. Our team goal is to win the Ontario Cup.”

Borscevski expressed confidence in his team’s chances to win the prestigious tourney: “Chances are good that we can win.  We’ll be playing FCT in the final—a really good team from Etobicoke.  We’ve played against them a few times.”

Borscevski—a productive forward—added that his personal goal this season is to repeat as “the team’s top scorer.”  Dhindsa—a skilled defender who takes pride in shutting down the opponent’s top scorers—has offensive goals of his own:  “I want to be a top three scorer on the team.”

With the Dynamic Duo of Borscevski scoring goals and Dhindsa preventing goals, it appears that Caledon’s SSE90 has the core talent to strive for and win their fair share in 2026.
