Bolton Braves take part in important safety message

Caledon Fire and Emergency Services has teamed up with the Bolton Braves Baseball Association, the Fire Marshal’s Public Safety Council and the Toronto Blue Jays to promote Swing Into Summer Safety.
This important safety initiative is all about educating and raising awareness among school-age children and their families about fire safety and other injury prevention tips.
The topics include barbecue safety.
Never barbecue in a garage, tent or other enclosed space. Dispose of barbecue coals in metal containers. Be sure to keep your barbecue clean and free of combustibles. Never leave a barbecue unattended.
When it comes to open-air burning, before starting a fire, ensure that open-air fire permits are allowed in your area. Keep fires supervised at all times. Have a water supply on hand and douse the fire out until no glowing embers are present.
Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms should be checked monthly. Replace alarms every 10 years or as per the date recommended by the manufacturer’s instructions.
Planning an escape from the home in the event of fire is an important safety consideration.
Prepare and plan a home fire escape plan with all members in the family. Ensure there are working smoke alarms on every level of the home, two ways out of every room and a meeting place. Teach all family members how to call 9-1-1 for help.
