Bethell Hospice hosted its 6th Annual Golf 4 Bethell Hospice Tournament on Wednesday at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley in Caledon.

Data Communications Management Corp (DCM) served as the presenting sponsor, alongside sponsors such as Maple Toyota, Chinguacousy Lions Club, Meadowvale Cemetery, Scotiabank, and others.

The day kicked off with a breakfast sponsored by the Morton and MacDonald Families, which also served as an opportunity for golfers to purchase their “Power Pac.”

The “Power Pac” included two hole-in-one contests, the closest to the keg contest, the longest drive, the longest putt, and one mulligan.

Golfers could also buy 50/50 tickets and enter for a chance to win a gift card to the Beer Store and a Hockley Valley Brewing Co. Taster Beer Pack.

Golfers came bundled to face the morning chill, but it wasn’t long until the sun shone down at the shotgun start.

Bethell Hospice Foundation Board Co-Chair Adrian Horwood shared that last year the tournament raised $ 92,000 for Bethell Hospice, and this year they expect to have raised over $100,000.

Bethell Hospice offers 24-hour care in its hospice residence in Inglewood, as well as a range of community programs and services for individuals still residing in their own homes.

All services and programs are provided at no cost.

To keep their doors open and continue providing their services free of charge, Bethell Hospice must raise a specific amount of funds each year.

Bethell must raise $1.8 million to provide funding for the hospice, as government funding only covers 50 to 60 percent of the costs of running the hospice.

Horwood shared that this tournament is a “very significant contributor.”

He noted support for Bethell has always been powerful in the community, with tickets for the tournament selling out “instantly.”

“A lot of people in the community make an effort to support Bethell one way or the other,” says Horwood.

“Bethell has a well-deserved reputation in the community for the work that it does, for the compassionate care it provides to the residents in the hospice,” he says. “All of the services that the hospice provides are free, and they’re free because the community supports Bethell Hospice and it’s the foundation’s job to rally that support in the community, as you see by all the people out here today.”

Horwood noted that those golfing were there not only to have a good day with their friends and family, but to support a good cause.

Bethell Hospice’s next fundraising event is its “Diamond in the Hills” fashion show, scheduled for November 16.

Yet again, the community showed up and showed out with support, as only 13 tickets remain available for purchase.
