Mayfield Secondary School
Carly Portch
This Grade 12 student is the quarterback for the varsity flag football team. The squad won their first tournament of the season and made it to the semifinals in the second. She is also a rugby player at school. Away from school, she plays for Erin Mills in the Ontario Youth Soccer league. The 17-year-old lives in Cedar Mills with her parents Russ and Elaine Portch.
Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School
Harold Van der Veen
This 13-year-old has been making his contribution to the varsity football team as a fullback. He’s rushed for about 60 years to contribute to the two wins the squad started the season with. He also plays fullback in the Orangeville Outlaws organization. The Grade 9 student lives in Grand Valley with his parents Elly and Peter Van der Veen.
St. Michael Catholic Secondary School
Joseph Grillone
This Grade 12 is a power for the senior boys’ volleyball team. “We’re playing strong,” he said. He also used to play football at school. In the community, he’s a defenceman in the Caledon Hawks organization. The 17-year-old lives in Bolton with his parents Helen and Vince Grillone.
Humberview Secondary School
Micaela Mennaman
This 17-year-old is an inside receiver and back-up quarterback for the school’s flag football club, which compiled two wins in their first three outings of the season. She also played goal for the varsity soccer club and played basketball one year at school. In the community, she plays rep soccer in the Bolton Wanderers’ organization. The Grade 12 student lives in Albion with her mother Laurie Nelson.
