The location has changed, but the annual Haunted Hill Fun Run will once again grace local streets, complete with ghosts and ghouls.

Sponsored by the The Rotary Club of Bolton, the 5K/10K Run/Walk and Kids 1K Fun Run will take place Sunday, Oct. 27 and the location has moved to the park behind the Caledon Wellness Centre and Rotary Place. It was moved due to the possible school closures and labour disputes.

Join in the fun and wear your Halloween costume or runner’s shirt! Registration beings at 9:30 a.m. and kids are free.  Each child will receive a race finisher’s medal, drawstring backpack and snacks. These are limited to the first 400 registrations.

At 10 a.m. run or walk along Kingsview to Longwood and into Bolton Camp, along the Murray Stewart Trail. Registered runners for the 5/10 km route need to pick up a runner kit including Haunted Hill t-shirt and goodies. The day includes lunch and prizes. Limited to the first 400 registrations.

All net proceeds for the day will go to local youth organizations including Humberview Alphadogs Robotics Team, First Lego-League Caledon, Kids First Caledon among others.

Organizer Karen Fast said they typically attract roughly 400 runners each year. The total amount raised in the run’s 8-year history is roughly $175,000. These funds have been directed to local youth and charitable groups.

“The costumes make it a whimsical event,” she said. “The run or walk is a friendly competition so no matter the age,  skill level or health of participants you can still have a great time.”

Fast said one Rotarian, John Williams, developed Parkinson’s and continued to run/walk until his passing.  This past year Rotarians were able to upgrade a trail in Bolton Camp and had it named to honor one of their 50-year Rotary members, Murray Stewart. That has been incorporated into the course route.

“The new location actually ties in well with our themes of community, recreation and wellness and aligned with Rotary Place, so it’s an appropriate re-location,” she observed.
