An exciting year of celebration is ahead at PAMA

Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) launches a year of celebration as Canada and Peel County and its historic Courthouse and Jail turn 150 years old.
PAMA will be hosting dynamic exhibitions all year, showcasing Canadian icons, including graphic novelist Seth, contemporary artist Charles Pachter and Canadian hero Terry Fox. Pay-what-you-can admission continues until Feb. 10 when the Art Gallery re-opens with exciting new exhibitions.
Celebrate the 150th anniversary
of PAMA’s historic courthouse and jail
The first official meeting of the County of Peel council was held in Peel County Courthouse Jan. 22, 1867, the same month the jail opened for the very first time. Tour the facilities 150 years later to learn new facts and unique stories.
There will be a birthday celebration, with cupcakes, tours and art activity Jan. 22, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. There are also guided courthouse and jail tours Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.
Special PA day fun
Celebrate National Handwriting Day Jan. 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Explore the exhibit Messages and Media: Two Centuries of Correspondence in Peel in the Archives and discover the art of text with family fun activity.
Experience 3D printing with PAMA and Makerspace at the Four Corners Library from 10 a.m. to noon.
See a 3D printer in action and learn how to design a 3D model using Tinkercad. Then print out the design at the nearby Four Corners Branch of the Brampton Library between 1 and 5 p.m. Registration is limited and required for the PAMA session. It’s recommended for children aged seven and older. Children must be accompanied by a guardian.
Exhibition highlights
• Service and Remembrance: 150 Years of the Lorne Scots Regiment (until Jan. 15).
• Capturing Caledon, on now until Feb. 2 in the Museum second floor.
• Come on Canada! Selections from the Meluish Collection of posters from the Second World War.
• Kids on the Move, play onboard the new PAMA Express and explore lots of hands-on family fun for little hands.
Continuing PAMA favourites
Knit@PAMA: Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. The knitting fun returns, starting Jan. 12.
Family Art and Yoga for all ages takes place Jan. 21.
Family Art and Stories will be Jan. 14. Bring in family photos and create a family storybook with PAMA’s art supply buffet.
Peel Aboriginal Network (PAN) Drumming Circle Jan. 19 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Join an evening of shared traditions and songs.
PAMA is a place to explore and learn about Peel Region’s culture and heritage, as well as use conversation, questions and stories to help make new and fascinating connections to the surrounding community.
