The Caledon Parent-Child Centre (CPCC) recently hosted their 14th annual Laugh out Loud (LOL) event, where those in attendance enjoyed some laughs while providing funding for the organization.

The event took place last Friday (April 20) at the Royal Ambassador Event Centre. Yuk Yuk’s comedians Cedrick Newman and Patrick Hay provided the laughter and entertainment for those in attendance, which included Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones and members of Caledon Council.

Music was provided by Sound X Entertainment, while a silent auction also took place to further raise funds.

“It started out as a women’s only event,” said Shelly Sargent, manager of community relations and volunteer, but now includes men.

The proceeds benefit child development programs and family support services, which includes child development opportunities, early identification of developmental concerns, referrals to specialized services and supports, and parenting education.

“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said CPCC Executive Director Teresa Colasanti, who added that they do a lot of their own fundraising, but other primary fundraisers are United Way, Region of Peel, and the Ministry of Education., and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services.
The event on average raises close to $20,000.

Ms. Sargent told the Citizen that this event is very important for the organization, as they are the community’s leading provider of support services for families with young children, and commit to maintaining a high level of quality programming. “Fundraising events, in particular Laugh Out Loud, allow us to help meet the needs of our growing community.”

Asked what she likes most about the event, Ms. Sargent said is walking among the tables and seeing smiling people and a mixture of new CPCC users, clients, donors, and community partners together. “The collective support and generosity represented in the room always warms my heart.”

She added how parenting is a serious issue, and how busy it can be, but it is important to take some time to relax, recharge, and share laughs with friends. “It is an event which offers everyone who attends the opportunity to share in the laughter for a great cause.”
