Yale opens a lead in the senior hockey standings

Yale Industrial Trucks closed out 2017 by taking the lead in the Caledon Senior Hockey League standings, and opened 2018 by adding to it.
Yale bombed Rutherford Global Logistics Jan 8 in a showdown for first place.
The 9-2 win for Yale increased their grip on the top spot as second-place Rutherford fell four points behind with the loss. In the other games at Don Sheardown Memorial Arena, the Grit Bagmen downed Fines Ford Lincoln 7-4 and Heart Lake Insurance and the Jiffy Lube Oilers played to a 3-3 tie.
Yale 9, Rutherford 2
Steve Smith led the way for Yale with two goals and two assists.
Bob McHardy was right behind with two goals and one assist. Also bagging three points were Tony Dinis and team rep James Heenan, who both had one goal and two assists. Frank Cirone, Bernie Tisdale and Santo Gazzolla all had one goal and one assist. Bill Davis notched a single assist.
Mark Perrin and Bruno Fracassi each scored an unassisted goal for Rutherford.
Heart Lake 3, Jiffy Lube 3
Paul Agius scored with five seconds left in the game to pull out the tie for Heart Lake.
Team rep Ian Kerr had a goal and an assist for Heart Lake, while Jamie McDonald also scored. Steve Tarasco set up two goals while single assists went to Mike McNamara, Tim Sinclair and Frank McKay.
Team rep Peter Coghill, Pete McNamara and Maurizo Giorgio scored for Jiffy Lube. Greg Frangakis, team sponsor Brian Fetterly, Dom Spignesi and Grant Moffat all had one assist.
Grit 7, Fines Ford 4
Jim Sabaziotis, Tony Curcio and Kyle Smith powered the Grit attack with four points each.
Sabaziotis scored three goals and added an assist while Smith had two of each and Curcio scored once and set up three goals. Mike (Dr. Bend) Shore had a goal and two assists. In the assists department, Joe (The Barber) Guaragna had two and Randy Freitag had one.
Joe Palumbo and Mike Foley were the leaders for Fines. Palumbo had two goals and one assist while Foley notched three helpers. Luch Pinarello and Alex Dorosh scored the other goals. Bill Moyer had two assists and Jeff Boyles and George Armstrong each had one.
