Vigils coming Dec. 6 to promote fight to end violence against women

November 28, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Family Transition Place will be holding two vigils Dec. 6 as part of the observances to mark Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
The Caledon vigil will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Albion-Bolton branch of Caledon Public Library. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP, either through the Family Transition Place website at http://familytransitionplace.ca, or by phoning 905-584-3457, ext. 243.
The other vigil will be earlier in the day, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.at Family Transition Place at 20 Bredin Parkway. That ceremony will be outside, so people planning to attend are urged to dress appropriately.
This day, established in 1991 by the Parliament of Canada, marks the anniversary of the murders in 1989 of 14 young women at l’École Polytechnique de Montréal. They died because they were women. It is also a day on which communities, including this one, can consider concrete actions to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.
