Mayfield Secondary School
Rachel Chan-Yaneff
This 14-year-old has proven herself pretty handy with a tennis racket, having made it to the finals at ROPSSAA in the junior girls’ singles division. She’s planning to try out for nordic skiing, and then track and field in the spring, specializing in the 400 and 800. She used to ski out of Mansfield and also rides at the Eglinton and Caledon Hunt Club. The Grade 9 student lives in the Mono Mills area with her parents Greg Yaneff and Maznisa Chan-Yaneff.
Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School
Tom Heysel
This Grade 10 student played power for the junior boys’ volleyball team, which recently ended its season. He’s also trying to get a junior boys’ rugby team started at Hall, and has plans for going out for track and field in the spring, specializing in hurdles. The 15-year-old lives in Caledon East with his parents Karen and Peter Heysel.
St. Michael Catholic Secondary School
Dylan D’Amato
This 15-year-old contributed his skills to the junior boys’ football team, playing wide receiver and safety. The season just ended for the club, and he notched one touchdown. Away from school, he plays football in the Vaughan Rebels’ organization. The Grade 10 student lives in Bolton with his parents Mary and Nicholas D’Amato.
Humberview Secondary School
Dawson Rowntree
This Grade 10 student placed fourth in cross-country running at ROPSSAA, qualifying to compete at OFSAA. Come spring, he’ll probably go out for track and field, specializing in the 800 and 1,500, and he might play soccer too. Outside of school, he’s active in 310 Running and plays soccer in Maple. The 15-year-old lives in Bolton with his parents Bruce and Michelle Rowntree.
