More than 150 volunteers, representing 15 different organizations, recently took a different route.
Instead of heading into work, they each visited one of United Way of Peel Region’s 54 partner agencies to volunteer for Day of Caring.
Working on projects at more than 25 sites across Caledon, Brampton and Mississauga, volunteers saw first hand the impact of their investment in United Way programming that reduces poverty, prevents poverty and supports people in crisis.
Projects for Day of Caring included decorating a youth shelter for Thanksgiving, a visit to a pumpkin patch with newcomer families and preparing a Thanksgiving luncheon for individuals who depend on Caledon Meals on Wheels.
“Season after season, year after year, I’m always encouraged by the amount of people and corporations who dedicate their time to improve our communities,” commented United Way of Peel Region President and CEO Shelley White. “When we join hands we can change the world one life at a time.”
“The United Way campaign is all about rallying people around one goal and that’s to eliminate poverty in our community,” she added. “These volunteers saw first hand where the funding goes and the people it touches. They are change makers.”
