Peaceful Families is an 11-week group for mothers and children, aged between five and 16 who have experienced abuse in the home or a difficult separation.
Run by Family Transition Place, the group is available for children who may or may not have witnessed the abuse and are impacted by the changes in their home. After a meal and a family activity together, the mothers and children separate into their individual groups. The discussion in the mother’s group focuses on how to support their children through the changes in their home. The children’s groups focus on healthy and unhealthy relationships, the changes they have experienced in their home, safety and self-esteem. Children do not have to disclose their own experience of witnessing abuse but can gain support from activities and discussion with the facilitators and other children their age.
Child care is provided for children four and younger.
The group starts April 9, meeting from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday at Family Transition Place in Orangeville.
Registration is on a first-come, first served basis.
Register by calling 519-941-4357 or 905-584-4357.
