Officers of Caledon and Nottawasaga OPP are asking for help from the public as they investigate similar occurrences involving males approaching children.
Caledon OPP reports a man approached children Oct. 29 in the area of Mount Hope Road at about 3:50 p.m. He was driving a newer model Mercedes S600 with leather interior. Police said he told the youngsters he was looking for a German shepherd dog.
The man appeared to be in his late 40s, had a large salt-and-pepper beard and salt-and-pepper chin-length hair parted in the middle. He’s approximately six feet tall.
The same day, at about 3:30 p.m., two children were approached in the area of Dillane and Keogh Streets in Tottenham by two people riding in a blue vehicle. The kids were again asked if they had seen a lost German shepherd.
In both cases, the children were unharmed and the vehicles left the area.
Police are asking parents to speak to their children about “stranger danger” and to report anything that appears suspicious. Children need to be reminded not to accept any candy, gifts or a ride from a stranger or from engaging in conversations with persons looking for directions or inquiring about a lost pet.
Police are asking anyone with information in relation to these incidents to contact them at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
They are also reminding everyone to be aware of their personal safety, and that of children, at all times. Children should not be left unattended anywhere, for any length of time, when out in public. The OPP website at www.opp.ca contains a number of useful resources, tips and links.
