Peel Memorial celebrates $1 million contribution

A $1-million donation to the new Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness from Magna International was announced recently.
The gift was made in front of Magna employees, local dignitaries and hospital staff at Magna’s location on Steeles Avenue East in Brampton, just eight kilometres from the new Peel Memorial. Recently completed and opening to the public in February 2017, Peel Memorial will be a new kind of health care facility — one that treats illness and injuries and also helps people stay well, manage their illness or disease, and learn about healthy living.
“We are deeply grateful for Magna’s support of Peel Memorial. They are a true corporate leader whose actions will improve the lives of those who live and work in our growing community by ensuring access to the very best care close to home,” William Osler Health System Foundation President and CEO Ken Mayhew commented.
The donation is part of Osler Foundation’s larger $100 million You Have the Power Campaign, which includes important redevelopment and renewal projects at each of Osler’s three sites.
Brampton Mayor Linda Jeffrey extended thanks to Magna for its support.
“Peel Memorial is a major asset for Brampton and would not have been possible without donors like Magna helping to build and, now, equip the facility,” she said. “I am proud to live in a city that inspires such tremendous giving from its corporate partners.”
Peel Memorial is home to the new Magna International Diagnostic Imaging Unit, named in recognition of Magna’s extraordinary investment, which was designated to the purchase of two digital radiography (X-ray) units. More than 54,000 radiography, mammography, ultrasound, CT and bone mineral density exams are expected to take place in this unit annually.
“Magna is committed to helping organizations in the communities where our employees live and work,” Magna Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Marc Neeb said. “We are pleased to be able to contribute to the health of families in Brampton by supporting this much-needed diagnostic imaging technology.”
