The Region of Peel has a new member of its executive leadership team.

In a July 10 media release, Region of Peel Communications staff announced Steve Jacques had been hired as Peel’s new Commissioner of Human Services. He will begin working in the role on August 12.

Jacques will oversee a portfolio of programs and initiatives that the Region of Peel runs with the goal of enhancing the well-being of individuals and families in Peel. He will also be in charge of the Peel Housing Corporation, which is in charge of ensuring provisions of safe and affordable housing options for Peel residents.

“A senior leader with over 25 years of experience, Steve has a proven track record of achievements in the areas of human services administration with a focus on housing, social assistance and community development,” said the Region. “He has gained deep knowledge and experience of the public sector through his work at several municipalities and public sector organizations.”

Jacques’ most recent job was General Manager of Community Development and Chief of COVID Emergency Operations at the City of Greater Sudbury. He’s also been the Director of Ontario Works at the City of Hamilton and Director of Regional Planning and Growth Management at the Region of Peel.

Other roles Jacques has served include Director of Revitalization and Renewal Communities at the Toronto Community Housing Corporation and Ontario Manager of Community Development and Research at the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

Peel’s CAO Gary Kent said he’s excited to welcome Jacques to Peel Region.

“After a thorough and inclusive search, I am very pleased to welcome Steve as our new Commissioner of Human Services at Peel Region. Steve brings extensive experience from several municipalities in Ontario to this portfolio and I know he will hit the ground running to seize the opportunities before us with Regional Council and the community,” said Kent.
