Thanks to a grant from the Town of Caledon, the Caledon Heritage Foundation has started work on our second major project following the creation and distribution of our highly successful children’s book “The Story of Caledon Then and Now” which has been distributed, free of charge, to all grade 3 students in the town.
We are now embarking on our next project which involves the creation of a multi faceted web site which will record the cultural heritage of Caledon from several perspectives. We have just retained the services of a professional web design company to assist us. The first step will be the collection and posting of items, including oral histories, which capture the cultural heritage of our communities, people, places and events. We want to enable the user of the site to see a “snapshot” in time and to achieve this we have separated the evolution of Caledon into 14 distinct time periods which will provide the user with an interactive experience when researching our history. This is an enormous task and will rely on the generous involvement of many volunteer hours.
All too often we hear about items of historic interest being destroyed when a family home is being cleared out. We invite all residents to become involved through submissions, volunteering and in whatever way you think you may be able to help in making this a successful undertaking.
We know that there is a treasure trove of pictures, anecdotes, clippings, memories and the like out there and this is the time to have them recorded for all time. We don’t keep anything, we simply digitally record materials for posting and return the originals to the owner.
Please contact [email protected] for information on how you can become involved.
