Caledon is looking to celebrate its next class of sports legends.

On May 13, the Town of Caledon announced it was accepting nominations for its 2025 class of inductees to the Caledon Sport Hall of Fame.

“Sport brings people together, instills pride, and unites communities,” wrote said Town Communications. “Whether as athletes, builders, or teams, these nominees represent the epitome of dedication and excellence.”

Athlete, builder, and team are the three categories in the Caledon Sport Hall of Fame. In order to be inducted in the Caledon Sport Hall of Fame, nominees must have either been born in Caledon; maintained residency in Caledon for five consecutive years; or been raised or spent their formative years in Caledon.

Caledon Mayor Annette Groves said she’s looking forward to celebrating more of Caledon’s amazing sports community.

“We are excited to see who is nominated this year and who will be considered for the 2025 class of inductees,” said Groves. “Be sure to nominate someone or a team who has made an impact in our sporting community.”

Those interested in nominating a person or team to be inducted can visit caledon.ca/cshof to make a nomination by June 21.

The Caledon Sports Hall of Fame was created in 2018 as a place to recognize, memorialize, and celebrate the accomplishments of Caledon athletes, builders and teams. The hall is located on the second floor of the Caledon East Community Complex.

Four athletes, three builders, and one team were inducted into the Caledon Sports Hall of Fame at the first annual induction ceremony, which was held earlier this year.

The athletes were hockey player Bert McCaffrey, triathlete Bob Knuckey, skier Laurie Graham, and jockey Robin Platts.

The builders were editor and reporter Bill Whitbread, former Toronto Maple Leafs owner and racehorse breeder Conn Smythe, and much-loved basketball coach Gord Everett.

The team inducted this year was the 2004 Mayfield Secondary School Girls Nordic Ski Team, consisting of Brittany Webster, Julie Porter, Gillian Montgomery, Brittany Reid, and Robyn Kemp.
