A 37-year-old Toronto resident is facing a second degree murder charge in the death of Caledon resident Varsha Gajula.
The remains of the 41-year-old were found in a suitcase in the Keele Street and Hillary Avenue area of Toronto, according to Toronto Police Services (TPS).
Carita Jackson of Toronto was charged with second degree murder on Monday, August 30.
“On Wednesday, August 25, at 10.41 a.m., Police responded to a radio call for a suspicious incident,” said Constable Alex Li on behalf of Detective Sergeant Brandon Price of TPS’ Homicide Unit. “It is reported that the body of a deceased woman was found in the area. Officers attended the area and located the deceased woman. The Homicide Unit has taken carriage of the investigation.
Anyone who may have seen Varsha Gajula, have heard or witnessed anything suspicious, is urged to contact Homicide detectives.”

Jackson appeared in court on Tuesday, August 31, to answer the charges.
