Lots to see, do and experiencew this summer at PAMA

The Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) is looking forward to a summer of play as they gear up for a new museum exhibition opening June 18.
In partnership with the Royal Ontario Museum, it’s all about toys and games over the past 100 years.
This month, PAMA will celebrate National Aboriginal Month with programs, art and an exhibition. The staff there hope to see people explore, create and connect with the exciting programs and exhibitions.
Celebrate National Aboriginal History Month by:
• Checking out the new display Creating Art: Wiikwemikoong Artists and Peel Students at PAMA, In the Tunnel Gallery, on now until Oct. 2;
• Join the Peel Aboriginal Network (PAN) for a Drumming Circle June 16 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
• Visit the permanent exhibition We are Here: The Story of Aboriginal People in Peel which highlights the history, traditions and beliefs of North America’s indigenous populations
Get Creative as a Family events will include Family Art and Yoga June 11 and 18 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. These sessions are free with admission and pre-registration is required.
Connections Art and Book Club is back June 9 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Literature and visual arts connect in this distinctive book club. Join the discussion with PAMA and the Brampton Library staff with this month’s choice: Bone and Bread by Saleema Nawaz (a Canada Reads 2016 finalist). The book discussion will be paired with a tour of PAMA’s exhibition The Singh Twins: A Retrospective. the club is free. Register with the Brampton Library at 905-793-4636.
PAMA Kids P.A. Day, in partnership with the Brampton Library (Four Corners location) and Maker Space Brampton, will be June 13. The first part will be from 1 a.m. to noon at PAMA. the second will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at Four Corners Brampton Library (at 65 Queen St. East).
Design and build with PAMA, Makerspace and the Brampton Library. Tour the Innovation in Peel exhibition at PAMA and create your own invention or instrument. Staff from the Four Corners Brampton Library will also help and bring it all to life using their Makey Makey kit.
This is free with admission, pre-registration required for the morning session at PAMA. Guardians must accompany children.
New Exhibitions
Walk the Art Exhibition, organized by the Peel District School Board in partnership with PAMA, will be June 16 to 30. The opening reception will be June 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This exhibit helps to spark dialogue around important issues, giving students an outlet for their unique views while showcasing the artistic talent of Peel Secondary School students.
Canada at Play: 100 Years of Games, Toys and Sports will run from June 18 to Aug. 21, with the opening workshop June 18 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Explore some of the traditional toys and sports enjoyed by Canadians over the past 100 years. Join in the fun by playing a game or adding a piece to the puzzle. The core of this exhibition was organized and circulated by the Royal Ontario Museum through its Travelling Exhibition Program. It has been enhanced by artifacts, activities and images from PAMA.
And don’t forget that PAMA offers three weeks of Summer Camp Fun July 4 to 22 (for children aged six to 12)
Canada at Play runs July 4 to 8, Hip Hop + Art is July 11 to 15 and Wonderful World of Water is July 18 to 22. The cost of $157.25 per week for members and $185 per week for non-members.
