Local Freshii provides quality, affordable food

Freshii’s new location in Bolton, located beside the Home Depot, gives food lovers a chance to enjoy quality food at affordable prices.

Launched in 2005 by founder and CEO Matthew Coren, it now has 300 locations in over 85 cities in 15 countries worldwide. It has a diverse and customizable menu, ranging from breakfasts, soups, salads, to wraps, bowls, burritos, frozen yogurt, juices, and smoothies.

“Owning a business was something of a life-long dream,” said the new franchises’s owner Tappinder Jhaji.

According to their website, Freshii’s mission is to “help citizens of the world live better by making healthy food convenient and affordable.”

Knowing the food was good was something that made Mr. Jhaji take the opportunity to purchase a Freshii, after meeting with Mr. Coren, “but it was a lot more than just about the food.”

He said it was the core values of the company “that really resonate to me,” and how they properly treat their employees and customers.

He added that another reason was the brand, specifically being Canadian, and how it;s grown rapidly despite still being relatively new. “We have the backing of this large corporation even though it’s still a small growing Canadian brand.”

Mr. Jhaji said he was impressed with Mr. Coren, who “has quite a vision and quote a drive.”

He explained that it wasn’t just the convenience of living so close to Bolton to own the restaurant, but how the town is rapidly growing. “There’s an opportunity for the residential and industrial part.”

Not only does the company pride themselves on being healthy, but also green.

Mr. Jhaji explained they are always looking for ways to reduce, using containers, cutlery, and bags tat are recyclable or bio degradable.

The big thing he said they are working on is stopping the use of straws. They use the hashtag #stopsucking on their website, and when customers come in for an entree, if they don’t buy a draw for their smoothie, that smoothie will only cost $2. “We’re trying to encourage people to do little things to help make the environment better.”

Mr. Jhaji added he wants to focus on education, building the business, and “hiring people from the community,” as all 15 employees are from the Bolton and Caledon area.

He said it’s good seeing awareness for healthy eating on the rise, and added the person who designs their menu is a nutritionist by trade. “People are being more cautious about what they’re putting into their bodies.”
