Caledon residents who want to learn more about the local OPP detachment will have the chance.
Starting May 15, Caledon OPP will launch a seven-week Police Academy for civilians. Successful applicants will attend weekly evening classes and will be taught the history of OPP, how criminal investigations are conducted from start to finish and several other interesting police related topics. They will also receive instruction from scenes of crime officers, traffic and motor vehicle collision investigations and other experts in their respective fields of policing.
Applicants are asked to submit a 500-word essay stating their reasons for wishing to participate in the Caledon OPP Civilian Academy. Applicants will be carefully screened and are subject to a criminal record check. The Civilian Academy will be restricted to 20 Caledon residents who have no previous volunteer experience with Caledon OPP.
