Jones angry residents on hook for gas plant cancellations

Dufferin-Caledon families will be paying even more every month on their hydro bills to cover the costs of the Liberal cancellation of the Mississauga and Oakville power plants.
That observation came from local MPP Sylvia Jones.
“The recent Auditor General’s report on the cancellation of the Oakville power plant outlined how the Wynne Liberals’ political self-interest will cost the province over a billion dollars,” Jones said. “Now that billion dollars is being passed onto Dufferin-Caledon families and businesses in the form of higher hydro bills each and every month.”
Jones pointed out that not only was Premier Kathleen Wynne the Liberal Campaign co-chair when the political decision was made to cancel the plants, Wynne also signed off on the Cabinet document authorizing the cancellation.
“We have families here in Dufferin-Caledon that are already afraid to open their hydro bill each month,” Jones said. “Kathleen Wynne has admitted that it was a ‘political decision’ to cancel the plants, so to expect those families to now also foot the bill to save a few Liberal MPPs’ seats in an election is shameful.”
“Moreover, by further adding to Dufferin-Caledon manufacturers and other business’ hydro bills, the Wynne Government is making it that much harder for these job creators to grow and employ more people in our communities,” Jones continued.
“Ontario needs and deserves better,” she concluded.
