Monday’s Volunteer and Citizen Achievement Awards event also included the presentation of the award for Environmentalist of the Year.
It was announced last month that this year’s recipient was the Bolton and District Horticultural Society.
In making the presentation, Cat Cybulski, representing the Caledon Environmental Advisory Committee (CEAC), observed the society has been involved in numerous projects and partnered with a variety of groups to improved the ecology and beauty of the area since it was formed in 1995. The accomplishments include planting some 2,500 native trees and shrubs, as well as 2,000 wildflowers. She also said the society has provided leadership and funding for 15 different projects throughout the area.
The recognition includes a certificate which was presented at Monday’s event. The name of the society will be added to the commemorative rock in the CEAC Stewardship Grove along the Trans-Canada Trail in Caledon East. And the group will be able to direct a $500 award to the Caledon-based environmental project of their choice.
Cybulski said the recipient of the $500 hasn’t been announced yet.
“You can bet it is going to have something to do with someone planting something somewhere,” she observed.
