Final chance to register for Sunday’s C3 Caledon Kids of Steel Triathlon

Race entries are coming in big numbers as C3 prepares for Sunday’s 16th annual Kinetico Kids of Steel Triathlon.
Numerous unique situations are unfolding with long-time C3 pro Sean Bechtel having his son Ross, 2, preparing for his second ever Kids of Steel Race, and 60-year-old Hans Porten preparing for his 12th race.
“Our event has something for everyone, but the priority is fun, inspiration and the opportunity to really make this a very positive weekend for everyone in the region,” said Olympic bound Barrie Shepley.
Shepley will be in Rio in August doing CBC coverage and is excited that he will be back on the finish line microphone for the 16th annual event.
The May 29 race will have some of the top pros in the world coming out for the day to cheer on the kids and families. Andrew Yorke, Sean Bechtel and Sadie Holmes are just a few of the international pros who will be in attendance Sunday. As a special inspiration for getting families involved in the race, C3 will be drawing for some Free Rio Olympic Swag for those who register by Friday night (May 27).
The entire event takes place at Mayfield Recreation Complex. With help from Kinetico, Royal Containers, Benson Steel, Caledon Hills Cycle Shop, Skechers Shoes, Louis Garneau and Cervelo Bikes, it will be a world-class day for families. C3 Olympic hopeful, Andrew Yorke said that without C3 and the Kids of Steel Race, he would never have had a chance to race at the Pan Am Games, The Commonwealth Games and his goal of the Olympic Games.
“The incredible help that Stewart Barclay, Kim Nelson, Steve Benson, Phillip Adsetts, coach Barrie and all of C3 has been invaluable to my career development,” said the Caledon East native. “I know there are future champions living in our town and we just need to give them a chance to have some fun in our local race and realize their talents.”
Yorke will be pulling some names in a draw Sunday at noon to see who will get some free Rio Olympic Swag that Shepley will be picking up when he is in Rio in August.
Adults and older kids will be starting their competition at 8 a.m. The opening ceremonies will be at 12:30 p.m., when the younger kids start. Those in the three to six age group will start at 12:45 p.m., with the pros going off at 1:30.
