FATAL COLLISION ON COLERAINE DRIVE

Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal collision on Coleraine Drive, in the Town of Caledon.

“On September 10, 2024, shortly before 8:00 a.m., Caledon OPP responded to a four-vehicle collision in the intersection of Coleraine Drive and King Street West,” say Police. “One driver, a 23-year-old of Bolton, was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Coleraine Drive Between Ellwood Drive and Emil Kolb Parkway/King Street was closed for several hours while the OPP Technical Collision Investigators and reconstructionists assisted with the investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage is asked to contact Caledon OPP at 1-888-310-1122. OFF-ROAD VEHICLE SAFETY

In 2023, half of the Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) fatalities in Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) jurisdictions occurred during the end of the year. As a result, the Central Region of the OPP is raising awareness about ORV safety.

“The OPP investigated 26 ORV fatalities in 2023, in which 13 occurred between September and December,” say Police. “Lack of helmet use, alcohol and/or drug consumption, and failure to maintain control of the vehicle remain the leading factors.

With your help, we hope to spread the word about ORV safety.”

Here are some critical safety guidelines and best preparation for enjoyable riding:

Driving an ORV while impaired by alcohol or drugs is as unlawful as driving any other vehicle and carries the same impaired driving penalties that apply to driving a motor vehicle;

Always wear a properly fitted helmet with a secure chin strap. ORV drivers and passengers who do not wear their helmets are at a much higher risk of serious injury or death if they crash, lose control, or their vehicle tips over;

Always carry your registration and proof of insurance;

Ensure proper display of licence plate according to the ORVA;

Have a valid trail pass where applicable;

Exercise caution when riding on permitted roadways, adjusting to the difference between dirt and pavement;

Drive cautiously and familiarize yourself with the required speeds for ORVs.

IMPAIRED CHARGES

Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged three parties with impaired-related offences over the weekend.

“On September 6, 2024, shortly after 9:00 p.m., Dufferin OPP officers responded to a call for service in the area of Leanne Lane in the Town of Shelburne,” say Police. “The accused left the scene prior to police arrival. Officers located the driver and were led into an impaired driving investigation.”

A 40-year-old, from Brampton has been charged with:

Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court;

Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm;

Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court;

Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence;

Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs;

Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus);

Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court;

Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm;

Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court;

Break, Enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence;

Assault.

“On September 6, 2024, shortly after 11:00 p.m., Dufferin OPP responded to a traffic complaint in the area of A Line in the Township of East Garafraxa. Officers located the driver and were led to an impaired driving investigation.”

A 49-year-old, from Caledon has been charged with:

Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor;

Disobey stop sign – fail to stop;

Fail to surrender insurance card;

Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle;

Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs;

Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

“On September 7, 2024, shortly before 12:30 a.m., Dufferin OPP responded to a call for service in the area of Main Street in the Town of Grand Valley. Officers arrived on scene and noted a truck driving down the road with no lights on. Officers spoke with the driver and were led to an impaired driving investigation.”

A 20-year-old, from Grand Valley has been charged with:

Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The charges have not been proven.

MISCHIEF INVESTIGATION

Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged three parties with mischief along with alcohol related offences as the result of their investigation.

“On September 7, 2024, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Dufferin OPP officers responded to a call for service in the area of Main Street and Owen Sound Street in the Town of Shelburne,” say Police. “The complainant advised that three parties were observed banging on windows and damaging construction signs. Police arrived on scene and were led into a mischief investigation.”

Amrat Buttar, 24, from Brampton has been charged with:

Mischief – destroys or damages property

Gurveer Chohan, 29, from Brampton has been charged with:

Mischief – destroys or damages property;

Being intoxicated in public place

Maihtaab Singh, 22, from Mono has been charged with:

Mischief – destroys or damages property

The charges have not been proven.
