With two more weeks to go, the King Curling Club’s walls anxiously await the echo of the most famous words in curling; “Hurry Hard.”
It has been nearly six months since King curlers threw a rock and swept a broom so, as we put away the clubs and bats, we look forward to the rings of red and blue. Along with the laughter and personal bests that are sure to arise, there will be team challenges and league championships to be won amongst the club’s more than 300 members. There is much to be excited about as we welcome a new executive, the new and inspiring and of course, our current and skilled curlers for the upcoming 2014-15 season.
The Men’s League is expected to be a full house of excitement once again as the men with brooms will be challenging for that ultimate goal of league champions and to represent the club at the Dominion Tankard for The Ontario Men’s Club Championships.
The Ladies’ League is also ramping up with excitement as more teams are joining this enthusiastic group for a whole lot of challenge, fun and laughter.
It was quoted last year that there is never a dull moment in Friday night curling, and once again our enthusiastic convenor has creatively planned a season full of exciting new theme nights, fun and surprises.
After a very successful youth program last season, the Little Rocks, Bantam and Junior leagues also foresee a very exciting season with added Invitational Bonspiels and Challenges.
There is also a new look to the club’s website and the executive welcomes everyone to take a browse and catch up on what the club is offering as well as the many events scheduled throughout the season.
King Curling is proud to once again offer an open house for those who are interested in trying out the sport of curling for free. Equipment is provided and experienced coaching staff will be on hand to assist and introduce the basic fundamentals of the game. Upstairs in the curling club lounge, members of the executive will be present to help with the registration of new curlers and for those members needing to finalize their 2014 league schedules. All of your curling equipment, ranging from shoes to brooms, will also be on site for purchase with the help from our friends from Shot Rock. Participants are asked to come dressed in warm/loose layered clothing and to have a clean pair of running shoes to be worn on the ice.
The open house will be at Trisan Centre in Schomberg tomorrow (Friday) from 7 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
The open house is free for adult and youth curlers and is strongly recommended to those who are interested in learning the basics before stepping onto the ice. Mark your calendar with the dates below as the King Curling Club executive welcome’s everyone new and old for a thrilling 2014-15 curling season.
