A COVID-19 respiratory outbreak was recently reported at Headwaters Health Care Centre (HHCC)
HHCC and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) declared the outbreak on January 30 due to positive COVID-19 cases among patients in the hospital’s E-Wing.
In a press release issued by HHCC on January 31, the hospital reported that there were no COVID-19-positive cases among staff or physicians associated with the outbreak.
The earliest Headwaters can be declared out of outbreak status is tomorrow, February 7, provided there are no additional cases related to this outbreak. At that time, an “outbreak declared over” notice will be provided.
Headwaters Emergency Department, Ambulatory Care Services, other inpatient units, and scheduled surgeries are not impacted by the outbreak.
Precautionary infection prevention and control precautions are in place at HHCC in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. These include mandatory masking for E-Wing visitors and only one person being allowed to visit a patient at a time.
“Visitors must wear masks when entering the unit. Visitors are asked to refrain from eating/drinking while on the unit, always remaining masked. Hospital-issued masks will be available outside of the unit,” said HHCC.
